AKKUSMARKT

Akkus gelten als zentraler Schlüssel für den Durchbruch von Elektroautos, weil sie bislang die Reichweite begrenzen und die Fahrzeuge teuer machen. Trotzdem will Daimler – bislang einziger auf diesem Feld tätiger deutscher Hersteller – seine Kräfte in diesem Jahr aus der Produktion von Akkuzellen abziehen und die Produktion schließen. Das Arbeitnehmerlager sieht darin einen fatalen Fehler.
"Ohne eigene Zellfertigung gefährdet die deutsche Automobilindustrie mittelfristig ihre Innovationsführerschaft", sagte VW-Betriebsratsboss Bernd Osterloh am Dienstag und forderte "eine Entscheidung der deutschen Hersteller und Zulieferer für eine Zellfabrik". Osterlohs Kollege beim Autohersteller Daimler, Michael Brecht, hatte zuvor im Handelsblatt ebenso wie sein Pendant bei BMW eine konzertierte Aktion gefordert. Gestützt werden sie von der Politik. "Ein Premiumstandort, der auch ein Premiumstandort bleiben will, braucht eine eigenständige Akku- und Zellproduktion", sagte Matthias Machnig (SPD), Staatssekretär im Bundeswirtschaftsministerium, dem Handelsblatt.
"Trauerspiel mit Fahrzeugherstellern, Zulieferern und Politik"
Die Forderung ist nicht ganz neu: Schon im Frühjahr machten sich die Betriebsratschefs von Daimler und Volkswagen für einen solchen Schulterschluss stark. Als Daimler vor einem Jahr ankündigte, seine Zellfertigung im sächsischen Kamenz zu schließen, sahen IG Metall und Betriebsratschef Brecht darin ein Warnsignal. Vergangene Woche wetterte der erste Vorsitzende der IG Metall, Jörg Hofmann: "Es ist ein echtes Trauerspiel, wie hier die Verantwortung zwischen Fahrzeugherstellern, Zulieferern und Politik hin- und hergeschoben wird." Stattdessen werde zugeschaut, wie sich die Schlüsseltechnik in Fernost und den USA entwickele.
Tatsächlich stammen die größten Produzenten von Akkuzellen inzwischen aus Asien. Firmen wie Samsung, LG oder Panasonic können in der Zellfertigung Größenvorteile ausnutzen, weil sie nicht nur für E-Autos, sondern auch für Akkus in Handys, Laptops und Tablets produzieren. Der E-Auto-Pionier Tesla baut in den USA zusammen mit Panasonic die bislang größte Zellfertigung der Welt auf, die 2017 aufgenommen werden soll. Die wachsende Produktion macht die Zellen der aktuellen Generation billig, einen Neueinstieg aber umso teurer.
3 Milliarden Euro für gemeinsame Akku-Produktion
Angesichts der Ansage von Volkswagen im Lichte des Abgasskandals, 20 neue Elektromodelle zu lancieren, nimmt die Diskussion über eine deutsche Produktion aber neue Fahrt auf. Das Handelsblatt zitiert Gewerkschaftskreise, wonach die drei großen deutschen Autokonzerne jeweils eine Milliarde Euro investieren müssten, um eine gemeinsame Produktion auf die Beine zu stellen. Etwa so viel hatten Daimler, BMW und die VW-Tochter Audi für den Kauf des Kartendienstes Nokia Here locker gemacht.
Doch im Gegensatz zum Kartenmaterial für Roboterautos argumentieren die Hersteller, dass sie die Akkus nicht aus der Hand geben, wenn sie die Zelle nicht selbst produzieren, sondern nur einkaufen. Daimler tüftelt am Li-Tec-Standort Kamenz weiter an Akkusystemen, in die künftig Zellen von anderen Herstellern verbaut werden. Volkswagen entwickelt die E-Auto-Speicher zusammen mit Varta Microbattery. BMW kauft nur seine Akkuzellen von Samsung und macht alles andere selbst. Bosch entwickelt Akkusysteme in einem Joint Venture mit GS Yuasa und Mitsubishi Corp.

Lage könnte sich ändern
Ändern könnte sich die Lage, wenn neue Generationen von Zellen auf den Markt kommen. Dann könnten Investitionen in neue Produktionsstandorte wieder lohnen, heißt es in der Branche. Bosch hatte auf der Automesse IAA im September einen Durchbruch in der Zelltechnik angekündigt, durch den E-Auto-Akkus deutlich kleiner und leistungsfähiger gemacht werden könnten. Der schwäbische Zulieferer hatte dafür eigens das US-Startup Seeo übernommen. Ob dieser Durchbruch allerdings in eine eigene Fertigung münden könnte, ließ Bosch offen.
Deutlich konkreter könnten die Pläne der Nationalen Plattform Elektromobilität (NPE) werden: Noch in diesem Jahr soll eine "Roadmap" für eine Akku- und Zellproduktion in Deutschland vorgestellt werden – allerdings wäre auch diese erst für die nächste Generation von E-Auto-Batterien gedacht. Apple reagiert und äußert sich zur Akku-Thematik bzw. zum Vorwurf, dass das iPhone 6s und das iPhone 6s Plus unterschiedlich lang laufen, je nachdem, welcher A9-Chip verbaut wurde. Natürlich will man von so großen Diskrepanzen nichts wissen und erklärt, dass es ganz natürliche Unterschiede gibt von Gerät zu Gerät, die allerdings mit Abweichungen von 2-3 Prozent beziffert werden vom Unternehmen aus Cupertino.
Gerade, wenn man – so wie Apple – ein Smartphone produziert, welches sich millionenfach verkauft, setzt man bei der Produktion auf verschiedene Produzenten bei gleichen Bauteilen. Das gewährleistet, dass man die erforderlichen hohen Zahlen produziert bekommt und ist auch eine Absicherung, falls einer der Zulieferer mal nicht wie gewünscht abliefert.
Im Normalfall sollte sich das nicht auf die Leistung im Endprodukt auswirken, aber ausgerechnet beim aktuellen Apple iPhone 6s Plus ist das eben doch der Fall, wie es scheint. Darauf deutet zumindest das hin, was dem Reddit-User Raydizzle aufgefallen ist. Der A9-Prozessor in den neuen iPhones stammt teilweise von TSMC und teilweise von Samsung. Er hat sich jeweils ein Exemplar des iPhone 6s Plus mit 64 GB besorgt und in wiederholten Vergleichen festgestellt, dass das iPhone mit dem von Samsung gefertigten A9 eine 1:45 Stunden kürzere Akkulaufzeit vorzuweisen hat als das iPhone mit dem TSMC-Halbleiter. Während er bei der TSMC-Variante auf 7 Stunden und 50 Minuten kommen soll, sind es beim Samsung-Chip lediglich 6 Stunden und 5 Minuten:
Das ist natürlich alles andere als repräsentativ, er hat die Akkus nicht komplett entladen lassen und für das kleinere iPhone 6s stehen auch noch keine Ergebnisse an, aber es bleibt aber definitiv bemerkenswert. Die technischen Daten beider Prozessoren sind identisch, allerdings werden die Steinchen unterschiedlich gefertigt: Während die Koreaner im 14 nm FinFET-Verfahren herstellen lassen, setzt die Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company auf das 16 nm-Verfahren. Jetzt bleibt abzuwarten, ob wir es hier mit einem Einzelfall zu tun haben, oder ob sich das verifizieren und der Leistungsunterschied erklären lässt.
Äußerlich werdet ihr keine Unterschiede zwischen den verschiedenen Modellen feststellen können, es gibt also keine Kennzeichnung dafür, welcher Chip sich im Innern befindet, bzw. wer dafür verantwortlich ist. Es gibt aber eine App, mit der ihr das herausfinden könnt: Mit der Anwendung Lirum Device Info Lite ermittelt ihr die Bezeichnung des verbauten Chips!

Erhaltet ihr beim Öffnen der App die Info „N66AP“ (6S Plus) oder „N71AP“ (6S), habt ihr es mit einem Samsung-Chip zu tun. Lest ihr auf dem Start-Screen der App jedoch „N66MAP“ (6S Plus) bzw. „N71MAP“ (6S), dann wurde der A9 von TSMC gefertigt.
PS: Aktuell scheint die App down zu sein, was aber nicht etwa was mit Apple oder gar Samsung zu tun hat, sondern von den Lirum Labs selbst veranlasst wurde. Sie dürfte in absehbarer Zeit aber wieder bereitstehen.Massig Platz für Inhalte aller Art bietet das 17,3 Zoll große Display. Es handelt sich nicht um einen Touchscreen - der Mauszeiger wird klassisch mithilfe des Trackpads oder einer externen Maus über den Monitor bewegt.Die Auflösung von 1.600 x 900 Bildpunkten führt zu einer weitestgehend scharfen Darstellung. Im Vergleich zu anderen (wesentlich teureren) Top-Notebooks fehlt es der großzügigen Bildschirmdiagonale aber an Pixeln. Beim genaueren Hinsehen können wir einzelne Bildpunkte erkennen. Im Alltag dürfte dies aber nur Adleraugen dauerhaft auffallen.

La UE a BigG: vogliamo vedere le proposte per eliminare il rischio di posizione dominante
A proposito di autirità Antitrust e relativi provvedimenti, l'accusa che pende sul capo di Google in Europa da tempo, e precisamente dal novembre 2010, quando la Commissione europea aprì l’indagine formale per verificare le eventuali manovre scorrette del gigante di Mountain View, è la seguente: abuso di posizione dominante.

Un sorta di nuovo avvertimento in materia è arrivato nel quartier generale di BigG dal Commissario alla concorrenza, nonchè Vice-Presidente della Commissione europea, Joaquin Almunia, che in una missiva spedita ad Eric Schmidt, l’ex Ceo e ora Presidente della società californiana, ha chiesto in modo esplicito alla compagnia di "presentare proposte di soluzioni per evitare le nostre preoccupazioni entro le prossime settimane".

Per la casa della Mela, che dalla sua può anche esibire il “sold out” maturato in due giorni (e parliamo di qualche migliaio di partecipanti a pagamento) per la sua WorldWide Developer Conference in programma a San Francisco dall’11 al 15 giugno, il momento d’oro quindi prosegue ma all’orizzonte si profilano alcune nubi.

Per esempio quella che la vede – come riportato dal Sole24ore, citando le parole di un analista di BgcPartnersLp – “obbligata a distruggere i suoi record per mantenere lo slancio, agli occhi degli investitori e del mercato”. Il boom prolungato di domanda di iPhone e iPad è funzionale quindi a tenere alto il valore del titolo in Borsa (e siamo già a livello stratosferici, oltre i 600 miliardi di dollari di capitalizzazione) ma le difficoltà per Apple iniziano ora.

Solo superando trimestre dopo trimestre le aspettative di profitto degli analisti – maggiori di quelle che il mercato "esige" alla concorrenza – l’azienda californiana troverà anche in futuro il riconoscimento di Wall Street. E questo, a tutti gli effetti, sa molto di, seppur piacevole, condanna.

Se il nuovo iPad continuerà a tirare e le vendite dell’attuale iPhone 4S troveranno seguito nell’atteso melafonino di quinta generazione per Apple si spalancheranno le porte di altri trimestri trionfanti e ulteriori salti in avanti del titolo. In caso contrario, se le consegne saranno sotto i target fissati dalla comunità finanziaria ecco scattare l’allarme, sotto forma di maggiore prudenza degli investitori in Borsa.

Fin qui le considerazioni di natura squisitamente economica. Se non che proprio Tim Cook, in occasione dell’annuncio della trimestrale, è andato all’attacco – senza farne esplicitamente i nomi – di Google e Microsoft. Come? Bollando i tablet con tastiera, o meglio il tentativo di fondere in un unico device un pc a tavoletta e un tradizionale portatile, come l’idea (malsana agli occhi dei consumatori) di combinare un tostapane e un frigorifero.

Le esternazioni del Ceo di Apple, riportate integralmente da PcMag.com, puntano l’indice verso una concorrenza che sta cercando di “inventarsi” delle alternative poco credibili nel campo del computing mobile ma sembrano forzate e per alcuni aspetti anche controverse. Detto che dalla concorrenza, al momento, è giunta solo una risposta a firma di Frank Shaw, portavoce di Microsoft - che su Twitter ha postato un ironico “Must be a typo. It's not a toaster/fridge. It's a toaster/oven. Those seem pretty popular. Just saying. #win8 #toasterovenFTW” – viene spontaneo l’ennesimo confronto fra l’attuale numero uno di Apple e il suo illustre predecessore.

Steve Jobs non mascherava certo atteggiamenti anche arroganti nei confronti delle rivali, almeno pubblicamente e ad uso e consumo dei media, ma spesso ha affermato principi e verità poi puntualmente disattese. Vedi per esempio l’impossibilità che Apple si buttasse nel campo degli ultrasottili (e poi arrivò il MacBook Air) e in quello dei tablet piuttosto che l’ostracismo dichiarato per le tavolette con schermo inferiore ai 10 pollici (e si parla invece ancora del lancio di un mini iPad a basso costo).

Cook, per farla breve, allontana di fatto l’ipotesi di un iPad con tastiera, o per meglio dire fa capire che non ci sono all’orizzonte progetti per “miscelare” in un unico device i computer Mac con gli iPad ma rimane sotto stretta osservazione di chi, fra gli analisti, lo aspetta al varco quando i risultati a fine trimestre non saranno più scoppiettanti, magari per effetto di una cannibalizzazione fra gli stessi prodotti della Mela

Fra i detrattori di Cook c’è per esempio George Colony, Ceo di quella Forrester Research che predige per l’iPad un futuro prossimo più che roseo, stante il 53% di market share che la tavoletta di Cupertino dovrebbe vantare ancora a fine 2016, quando le vendite globali toccheranno quota 375 milioni di unità.

In un post sul proprio blog, Colony ha però affrontato la questione della figura di Cook sentenziando con alcuni esempi come la Apple che verrà sarà difficilmente diversa, e in peggio, rispetto all’attuale e a quella che è stata. Cook, in altri termini, non ha il carisma di Jobs e questo limite porterà alla curva discendente della crescita di fatturato e della capacità di fare innovazione di prodotto entro 24 o 48 mesi al massimo.

Il rischio di passare dallo status di “great company” a quello di “good company” è secondo il numero uno di Forrester molto reale, ed in proposito emergono paragoni con nomi storici dell’industria dell’intrattenimento come quelli di Akio Morita di Sony e di Walt Disney. Finita l’epopea dei leader, le grandi compagnie perdono smalto e successivamente appeal, vendite e mercato. L’attualità, per ciò che concerne Apple, sconfessa in toto questo paradigma.

Colony auspica sulla poltrona di Ceo figure quali Jon Ive o Scott Forstall, che “sembrano avere un po’ del carisma e di senso del design per guidare legittimamente la società” . Una bocciatura senza appello per Cook, di fatto. Nel chiedersi quanto sia legittima, non resta che rilevare come l’eredità di Jobs è tutt’altro che un capitolo chiuso.

Dal Sole24ore di oggi, venerdi 13 aprile, si apprende quanto segue: “l'atteso sorpasso è avvenuto prima del previsto e sarà ufficializzato il 27 aprile: Samsung ha superato Nokia come primo produttore mondiale di telefonini per volumi di vendite. Il gruppo sudcoreano mette fine alla leadership finlandese durata 14 anni: nel primo trimestre 2012, secondo la media delle previsioni degli analisti, dovrebbe aver venduto intorno a 90 milioni di dispositivi, di cui quasi la metà smartphone, mentre la società finlandese ha comunicato l'altro ieri di aver consegnato nello stesso periodo 83 milioni di pezzi (di cui solo 12 milioni di smartphone).

Tpv avrà il pieno controllo di design, produzione e tecnologia dei prodotti e avrà come ulteriore dote tutti i 3.300 dipendenti occupati nella divisione Tv; marchio a parte – per cui la joint venture riconoscerà a Philips un fee del 2,2% per ogni apparecchio venduto per un periodo iniziale di cinque anni, rinnovabile automaticamente per altri cinque in base al raggiungimento di una serie di obiettivi – i legami con la compagnia olandese finiscono qui e quest’ultima potrà focalizzarsi “liberamente” sui propri veri core business: accessori digitali e per l’home entertainment e soprattutto settore medicale e illuminazione.

Visto e considerato che a detta di molti addetti ai lavori la sorte dei televisori in Philips era segnata già da diversi anni – nonostante novità recenti come gli schermi in formato 21:9 e le Smart Tv – è lecito chiedersi se ora il pallino dello sviluppo dei nuovi prodotti (così come sembra) sarà completamente in mano cinesi. Con il rischio che alcune linee di prodotto, magari quelle di più elevato profilo, potrebbero essere sacrificate.

Per le due aziende, ovviamente, l’operazione presenta solo vantaggi sinergici: esperienza nel design e nell’innovazione da una parte e capacità produttiva e commerciale dall’altra. E leggendo le dichiarazioni di Marco Hannappel, neo Managing Director di TP Vision in Italia, si potrebbe pensare a un brand che ha ancora molto da dire in un mercato che vede i produttori coreani – Samusng e Lg – dettare legge a scapito di Sony, Panasonic, Sharp e dei pochi altri marchi (Loewe fra questi) che hanno resistito all’emorragia che ha colpito molti delle grandi firme europee e italiane del televisore (Grundig, Thomson, Imperial, Radiomarelli e la storica Mivar).

片手で持てるサイズでノートPCにもタブレットにもなるコンパクト2in1端末「TransBook T90 Chi」が、OSを新たにWindows 10に変更して、従来比ほぼ半額の2万9800円(税別)という激安価格でリリースされました。OSが最新版にアップグレードされて価格が半額になるという離れ業を見せたASUSの小型モバイルPC・T90 Chiを、さっそく使ってみました。
GeChicから、USB給電で駆動するモバイルディスプレイの新モデル「On-Lap 1101H」が登場した。11型のコンパクトなサイズと480gの軽さを活かした携帯性が特徴で、出張先でのセカンドディスプレイとしてはもちろんのこと、スマホなどに接続して簡易プレゼン用としても活用できる製品だ。

タブレットとしても、ノートPCとしても使えて便利なことから人気のある2in1ノートPC。多機能で、どんなシーンでも便利に使える反面、
本体が小さすぎるとタッチ操作やキー入力がしづらかったり、スペックが低いと作業がモタついたり、不満がでることもある。

逆に、本体が大きすぎると持ち運びしづらかったり、スペックが高すぎると価格が高くなったりと、「オビに短しタスキに長し」と。感じることも、実は意外とある。

そんな中、Windows 10搭載で家庭用2in1の本命とも言える「Aspire Switch 10 E」シリーズ(エイサー)が登場した。

●10.1インチディスプレイ搭載で脱着キーボードに500GB HDD
「Aspire Switch 10 E」が搭載するCPUは、インテル製ATOM x5-Z8300 。
ATOM xシリーズはSurface 3にも搭載されるなど、十分な処理速度と低消費電力を実現する最新のCPUだ。
今後のミドルクラスPCの主流となるともいわれている。

ディスプレイは10.1インチで、実際に手に持ったり、持ち運んだりするにも、ちょうどしっくりくると感じられるサイズだ。10インチ画面にあわせたキーボードも、スムーズなタッチタイピングするには十分な大きさだ。
タブレット部分の重量は630gなので、片手でらくらく持ち歩ける。
マグネット式で脱着できるキーボードを含めた重量も1.28kgと、ノートPCとしても十分持ち運びできる重さで使いやすい。

もっとも重要なのが、ストレージの容量だ。
「Aspire Switch 10 E」には、本体に64GB(eMMC)を搭載するだけでなく、キーボード部分に500GBのハードディスクを搭載しているので、最近のモバイルPCのように、写真や動画、Officeファイルなど、大きなデータを保存するのに、ストレージ容量が足りないという問題もおきない。
自宅や仕事場などで、大事なデータやファイルを保存するPCとしても便利だ。

また、外出先など、持ち出す際も、バッテリーは駆動時間が12時間と長いので安心だ。さらに、本体の充電をMicro USB経由で行うことができるので、万が一バッテリー残量が減った場合でも、スマホ用のモバイルバッテリーなどで充電できるので安心だ。

仕事や家庭でワードやエクセルなどのOfficeファイルを扱う場合も、Office Mobileを搭載し、Office 365の1年間無料サービスも付属するので、ちゃんと利用できる。

カラーも、ムーンストーンホワイト、シャークグレイ、ピーコックブルー、コーラルレッドと、カラフルなラインアップから選択できる。

発売は12月11日から。実売69,800円と価格もお手頃なので、思わず手が出てしまいそうだ。
ノートPCを使っているときに、手動ではなく自動でOneDriveの同期開始、停止を切り替えたいと思うかもしれない。やや手間がかかるが、タスクスケジューラと組み合わせれば、そうした設定もできる。

ノートPCのバッテリー駆動時にOneDriveを停止したい

 OneDriveをバッテリー駆動時に自動的に停止し、ACに接続したときに復帰するには自分で設定を作らなければならない。

 最初に自動でOneDriveがスタートしないように設定する。これには、タスクマネージャーを使う。富士通は27日、ノートPC「LIFEBOOK」シリーズに搭載した一部のバッテリパックに発火のおそれがあるとして、対象バッテリパックの回収・交換を告知した。

ベンチマークテストは「winsat formal」コマンドと、PCMark 8 バージョン2、BBenchの結果を見たい。CrystalMarkのスコアも掲載した(4コア4スレッドで条件的には問題ない)。

 インタフェース類は、Gigabit Ethernet対応有線LAN、IEEE802.11ac/a/b/g/n対応無線LAN、Bluetooth 4.0、USB 3.0×1、USB 2.0×2、HDMI×1、D-sub×1、720p Webカメラ、4in1メディアカードリーダーなど。バッテリ駆動時間は約4.6時間。本体サイズはW384×D265×H23.4mm、重量は約2.3kg。

動物をモチーフにしたポップでカラフルなデザインが特徴。フクロウ、ライオン、キツネ、サルをモチーフにしたポップな4種類のデザインを用意する。
読み取りセンサーは、レーザーグレードトラッキングを採用し、解像度が1000dpi。ボタン数は3個で、スクロールホイールを備える。USB接続のレシーバーは超小型サイズとなっている。
このほか、バッテリーは単3形乾電池×1で、電池寿命が最大12か月。本体サイズは55.0(幅)×95.0(高さ)×38.7(奥行)mm。重量は84g(電池含む)。ボディカラーは、Owl(フクロウ)、Lion(ライオン)、Fox(キツネ)、Monkey(サル)の4種類。
ASUSは11月5日、キーボードが着脱できる8.9型2-in-1「TransBook T90Chi」を発表、7日から販売を開始した。ベースは今年(2015年)3月に発表した同モデルと変わらないが、OSをWindows 10 Homeに、OfficeをOffice Mobileに変更し、実売価格を32,000円前後と大幅にコストダウン。編集部から実機が送られてきたので試用レポートをお届けしたい。 下位モデルのCPUはIntel Celeron N3050(1.60GHz)で、上位モデルはIntel Core i5-6200(2.30GHz)。CPU内蔵グラフィックスは下位モデルがIntel HD Graphics、上位モデルがIntel HD Graphics 520となる。

その他の主な仕様はほぼ共通で、メモリがPC3-12800 DDR3L 4GB、ストレージが500GB HDD、光学ドライブがDVDスーパーマルチ。OSはWindows 10 Home 64bit版。15.6型の液晶ディスプレイは光沢(グレア)タイプで、解像度は1,366×768ドット。

 この製品は、持ち運びも可能なノート型ながら、デスクトップPC用GPUのGeForce GTX 980を搭載したハイスペックのPC。ディスプレイサイズは17.3インチ(1,920×1,080ドット)。 モバイル向けGPUではない、GTX 980による高いパフォーマンスが売り。同店によれば、通常より耐熱性が高いGPUを選別、採用するほか、電源部にも高品質のパーツを使用することで、高負荷時での高い信頼性を確保したという。

 また、NVIDIA G-SYNCや、外部ディスプレイを含む3画面までの同時出力にも対応。KillerチップによるGigabit Ethernetや、SteelSeries製のバックライト内蔵キーボードなども搭載する。 搭載CPUはモバイル用のCore i7-6820HK(4コア/8スレッド、ベース2.7GHz/ブースト3.6GHz)、チップセットはMobile Intel CM236。メモリ容量は32GB(DDR4-2133 SO-DIMM 8GB×4)。ストレージは512GB NVMe SSD(256GB×2、RAID 0構成)と1TB 2.5インチHDD、書き込み対応BDドライブを搭載する。

 主な搭載機能・インターフェイスはMini DisplayPort、HDMI、Gigabit Ethernet、11ac無線LAN、Bluethooth 4.1、USB 3.1(Type-C、1基)、USB 3.0(6基)、SDカードスロット、ヘッドホン出力、スピーカー、Webカメラ。


自宅では24型を上下左右に複数台、職場ではノートPC+27型、などといったように最近では複数台のディスプレイを使うことも、もはや珍しいことではなくなってきた。

 中心となるディスプレイはメインの作業領域として確保したまま、別のディスプレイにブラウザやSNSなどのコミュニケーションツールを常に表示したり、WordやExcel、PDFなどいくつもの資料を各ディスプレイに配置しつつ作業をこなしたりと、そのスタイルはさまざまだが、表示領域の広さはそのまま作業効率に繋がるようになってきた。

 もちろん、4Kのようにディスプレイの高解像度化も進んではいるものの、実質的には文字やアイコンを拡大して利用することが多く、PCでの作業スペースの広さは、もっぱら「数」が物を言う時代と言える。

 そんな、数による作業効率の向上という発想をモバイルの世界に持ち込んだのが、台湾のGeChicだ。2011年に発売されたOn-Lapシリーズは、USB給電で動作する持ち運び可能なディスプレイとして登場したが、物珍しさによる一時的な注目に終わることなく、出張や外出に多くの時間を割くユーザー層から高い支持を受け、今や定番と言われるアイテムにまでに成長した。

 モバイルバッテリなどで電源を確保すれば、外出先でのプレゼンも可能だ。On Lap 1101Hの画面を相手に見せながら、自分は手元のスマートフォンで操作をすることができるので、顧客先の打ち合わせスペースや喫茶店などでも、簡易的なプレゼンや資料説明が可能になる。

 仕事のスタイルによっては、極端な話、PCレスで、スマートフォンとOn-Lap 1101Hのみを持ち歩くというのも十分にアリだろう。携帯中は画面を保護しながら、使う時にスタンドとして活用できる専用カバーも標準で同梱されている。活用次第では、営業業務の強い味方になりそうだ。

 なお、今回はテストできなかったが、メーカーによると純正のApple Lightning - Digital AVアダプタ(MD826AM/A)を利用してiPhoneを接続することも可能となっているので、iPhone用のディスプレイとしても購入を検討するといいだろう。

外出のお伴に
以上、GeChicから新たに登場したOn-Lap 1101Hを実際に使ってみたが、携帯性は文句ナシだ。長期の出張ともなれば、もう少しサイズの大きなモデルを狙いたいところだが、毎週、毎日、持ち運ぶような用途では、このサイズと軽さは大きな武器となる。

 フルHDの解像度、フルカラーの表現力をこのサイズで実現している点も大きな魅力で、PC用のサブディスプレイとしてはもちろんのこと、前述した通り、スマートフォンのプレゼン用、カメラの確認用など、さらに用途の幅が広がる製品となっている。

 実売価格も29,800円と、持ち運べるサブディスプレイとしてリーズナブルな設定になっている。外出先で作業をすることが多い場合は、購入を検討して損はないだろう。

小柳出電気商会は、「FiiO」ブランドのポータブルオーディオプレーヤー「FiiO X1」の新色として、ブラックとブルーの2色を追加。12月4日より発売する。
「FiiO X1」は、2014年12月発売のハイレゾ対応ポータブルオーディオプレーヤー「FiiO X」シリーズのエントリーモデル。最大24bit/192KHzのハイレゾ音源再生に対応し、再生可能なフォーマットがAPE、WAV、FLAC、ALAC、WMA、MP2、MP3、AAC、OGGなど。内蔵ストレージは非搭載で、最大128GBに対応したmicroSDXCカードスロットを1基備えており、8GBのmicroSDカードが付属する。
また、X型に配置されたボタンレイアウトは上位モデル「FiiO X5」を継承。機能面では、メモリー再生、ギャップレス再生、キーロック、自動シャットダウン、スリープタイマーなどを備える。

Is it worth upgrading to the Wireless headphones if you already own a pair of M-100s? That's a tough one. The new Crossfades are darn good Bluetooth headphones, and even better wired headphones. The updated signature has a little more bottom and there's obviously been some fine tuning work done to the mids. Though we'd say the Crossfade Wireless headphones are definitely worth the money, if you like the sound of the M-100s (and why wouldn't you?) and simply don't have the cash to spare for the Wireless cans, maybe something like BTunes can help.

What's more, there's Intel Core I power bubbling under the hood with the choice of either an i5 or i7 processor. 8GB of RAM comes standard, leaving users with picking between 256GB or 512GB for their storage options.

However, there are still a few details being left in the dark as LG has been mum on expected battery life. The South Korean electronics firm has also yet to release the all too crucial pricing details and announced a wide availability window of sometime in mid-2016.

The LG Gram 15 is without a doubt the lightest 15-inch laptop in the world, but I'm concerned it may have sacrificed too much in the process of fulfilling this bullet point. The flimsy screen is inadmissible by today's build quality standards and missing battery life claim isn't comforting either.

With fast performance and a great keyboard, Acer's Chromebook R 11 looks like an enticing travel companion for budget-minded workers. And unlike standard Chromebooks, this one sports a versatile folding hinge that lets you use the machine like a big tablet. Unfortunately, short battery life limits the Chromebook R 11's potential for on-the-go-productivity.

The highlight of this machine has to be its excellent keyboard, which offers much deeper keys than we've come to expect on an 11.6-inch ultraportable laptop. With generous key travel and good feedback on each keystroke, the Chromebook R 11 feels great to type on, which is nice for marathon work sessions.

The laptop's folding design is genuinely useful, letting you use the device like a tablet or fold it back partway to prop up the 11.6-inch touch display. That versatility could come in handy for using touch-screen apps in cramped quarters, such as on an airplane tray table. Other highlights include its 2.7-lb. lightweight design and an Intel Celeron N3150 processor with 4GB of RAM, which provides solid performance for daily work tasks.
Relatively short battery life is one of the R 11's weak points. It ran for 7 hours and 28 minutes, which isn't exactly bad, but it does trail the ultraportable average of 8 hours and 20 minutes, as well as the runtimes of rival Chromebooks. The R 11 still has enough juice to last through most work flights, though.

Like all Chromebooks, this one runs on Chrome OS, a lightweight operating system designed by Google. Chrome OS isn't compatible with Mac or Windows software, instead focusing on Web apps. Thankfully, plenty of great Web-based software is available these days, including full-featured online versions of Microsoft's Word, Excel and PowerPoint apps.

"Back to the Future Part II" got it partly right. In the year 2015, the hoverboard is a real form of transportation that lets trendy kids get into trouble while effortlessly zipping along the sidewalk. There are a handful of important differences, though. These self-balancing scooters don't actually hover like the ones in the movie.

Hoverboards have become one of the hottest news stories this holiday season -- and not just because they're selling like mad. According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, there have now been 12 incidents in the United States where the lithium ion batteries in these hoverboards reportedly caught fire -- destroying bedrooms and even entire homes.

The fires have started in all sorts of different circumstances, too. According to owners and witnesses, some of the hoverboards exploded while charging, others while riding and one while it was simply sitting near a kiosk in a Washington shopping mall. (There have been several other hoverboard fires reported in the UK, and at least one in Hong Kong.)

Here's the really scary part: there's no single reason why these hoverboards are exploding, and there's no sure-fire way to avoid potential catastrophe if you want to buy one yourself. There's no particular brand of hoverboard to avoid -- they all seem to come from thousands of interchangeable factories in China -- or any label on the box that guarantees a product won't explode. And much of the advice we've seen issued by local fire departments and government agencies isn't likely to help.

For instance, officials have been warning that you should only use the charger that comes in the box. That sounds like common sense -- until you realize that these hoverboards tend to use a plug you won't find on any other type of device. Meaning you don't really choose which type of charger you can use, so it's pretty unlikely that any of these fires occurred due to someone mistaking a laptop charger for a hoverboard one.

Similarly, many officials now warn against overcharging hoverboards -- but when was the last time you had to think about overcharging a gadget? With modern laptops and smartphones, you simply plug them in and leave them there, trusting that they'll automatically shut off the flow of electricity when they're done.

While the US Consumer Product Safety Commission is now working nonstop to figure out the actual root causes of these incidents, they don't have the answers yet. "We want to be able to deliver for the public, but we hope they'll be able to appreciate that what's going on right now is a very thorough science-based investigation," said CPSC spokesman Scott Wolfson.

Or it could be that the CPSC pushes to ban hoverboards altogether. It wouldn't be the first time a popular toy was deemed too unsafe to sell. There are good reasons that lawn darts and magnetic Buckyballs, both popular toys, were banned. (Fires aren't the only reason that hoverboards are dangerous. The CPSC has received "dozens" of reports of injuries from falls from US hospital emergency rooms.)

Not that long ago, computer-chip makers competed to make their chips ever faster and more capable, with power consumption a secondary consideration. But the boom in energy hungry smartphones and laptops means that companies like Intel need to put much more emphasis on power efficiency these days.
Intel says its sixth-generation Core chips, known as Skylake, add a little more than an hour to battery life to laptops compared with the previous generation, according to spokesman Scott Massey. The chips utilize a more compact design, hard-wired functions that used to be run via software and fine-tuning how they ramp power use up and down.
